Installing SQL Server 2008 R2

Some of the basic System Requirements while Installing SQL Server 2008 R2 are:
Ø  O/S      : Windows 2003 with SP2 , Windows 2008 Server ,
  Windows 7 with SP1, Windows 2008
Ø  RAM   : Greater than 1GB
Ø  CPU    : 1GHz for 32-bit and 1.6GHz for 64-bit Version
Ø  HDD   : 2648 MB
  611 MB for Database Engine (493+118 MB)
Ø  SQL Server Client
Ø  .Net Framework 3.5 with sp1
Ø  Setup Support Files
Ø  Windows Services
*         WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation)
*         DTC (Distributed Transaction Coordinator)
*         RPC (Remote Procedure Call)
Ø  I.E       : 6 SP1 or a Later Version

Installing SQL Server

SQL Server supports 2 types of Installations
*         Stand Alone Installation
*         Cluster Based Installation

Steps to Install SQL Server 2008 R2

       1.      Open DVD Or Dump folder and click on Setup.exe

       2.      In “Installation Center” Click on Installation on the Left pane            

 3.      In “Installation” Click on “New Installation or Add Features to an Exiting Installation”

       4.      Under “Setup Support Rules” Click OK


 5.      Click Install under “Setup Support Files”. We have discussed that these files are installed for               every time we install SQL Server. These files take space in system drive.


 6.      Under “Setup Support Rules” Click Next
      Note:
·    If we get any Errors You have to solve those Errors and continue the Installation Process.
·        If we get any Warnings You may ignore them.

       7.      Under “Installation Type” have to select “New installation or add shared features” and then click        “Next”
       Note:
                    ·        In this Pane if You select ‘New installation or add shared features’ it means we are                                  installing New Instance in the Machine.
                    ·        If we want to add features for the existing Instance we have to select “Add features to                           an existing instance of SQL Server”.

      8.      Enter the Product key or click on “Specify a free edition” and then click “Next”
       Note:
·         If we install with “Evaluation” it indicates Free Version of SQL Server.
·         If we enter Product key it represents “Enterprise” Edition.

      9.      Select “I accept the license terms” and then click “Next”

      10.  Select “SQL Server Feature Installation” and then click “Next”

      11.  Under “Features” we have to Select All the features and click “Next”
       Note:
·         If we don’t want “Analysis Services” and “Reporting Services” Uncheck those and Click “Next”.

      12.  Click “Next” to Continue

      13.  In this Page we have to select which Instance we are going to Install in the machine    
       Note:
 ·         If we select “Default instance” the Name of the Instance will be “MSSQLSERVER”.     In every Machine only one Default instance will be installed.
·         If we select “Named instance” then we should provide the name of the Instance.

      14.  There must be 718 MB free space available in the “SYSTEM” Drive for loading the Temporary          files while installing and then click on “Next”

      15.  Here we have to select the Account Name Under drop down otherwise if we have Service account       and Password provide those and click on “Next”

      16.  Click on “Add Current User”. SQL Server creates a login for this account. Once the installation is        completed we have to enter into SQL Server using this account details and then click on “Next”

 17.  Uncheck that and click on “Next”

 18.  If any Errors are there it will show here and we have to solve those Errors and then click on                “Next”

 19.  In this have to check the details we are provided and then click “Install” to Continue

 20.  Wait for the Installation Complete

 21.  Installation Completed successfully and click “Close”

 22.  Open “SQL Server Management Studio” from Start Menu to Access SQL Server.
